Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has extended his best wishes to all oppressed communities for ethnic equality and harmony on the occasion of the National Day for Elimination of Caste Discriminations and Untouchability. “At the moment I would like to recall Nepal’s commitment for the elimination of caste-based discriminations and untouchability by signing various national and international instruments”, the Prime Minister states in a greetings message delivered on Friday. Prime Minister Oli further noted that the Dalit people have since long been deprived of knowledge, education, awareness and resources and means and their sacrifice and contributions to the movements in attaining political rights are significant. “The oppression and inequality meted out against Dalit community was not the subject to continue for a long time”, he added. The constitution has addressed the issues of Dalit rights enshrining it a fundamental right and the Dalit Commission has been granted the status of constitutional body, reads the message. The Prime Minister further noted that the day would inspire to create social awareness for the elimination of caste-based discriminations and untouchability.
